The Way Things Work →
The whole system is the culmination of a century of work by geniuses and specialists. Control over your hardware is the flimsiest of illusions. You only understand the snow frosting the top of the iceberg, and even then all you can do to fix it is pay for more. Great article. Read it.

Airbnb has booked 10M guest nights. →
I just used Airbnb to go to Barcelona. It was amazing. I loved it. I have nothing but good things to say about it. What a great idea executed well. Despite the teething problems, I really think this is a fantastic, disruptive service. I hope it continues to get better and better. My host was great. Phenomenal communication and a gorgeous flat. Flawless. I love Airbnb. Adios, hostelworld!

Windows Phone 8 Start Screen →
Talk about information overload. There’s so much “at a glance” that you have to stare for a while to work out what’s going on. The antithesis of useful.

Surface: Between a Rock and a Hardware Place →
Gruber: Design is about making decisions, and Microsoft could not decide. ARM or Intel? Who should be on stage? Soft or hard keys on the keyboard cover? They went with “all of the above”.

The New MacBook Pro IS The Future →
Warren: No, what’s happening to PCs is very similar to what has happened to cars over the last 20 years. In order to be more powerful, more efficient and more streamlined, the products not only require less user interaction – they inhibit that interaction. So true. I used one yesterday and now I must have one. They are hands-down the most impressive Macs built to-date and they are the...

Facebook and Twitter Sharing Through Apple... →
Constine: But that means you won’t have to visit Facebook or Twitter where you collide with what others create, diminishing the ambient intimacy they offer and turning them into ego-driven broadcast channels. I disagree. Whilst personally I do think now my engagement with Facebook will climb again as I’ll have a nice, easy way to share on Facebook without using the terrible mobile app,...

AirBnB
I’m off to Barcelona for Sonar Festival. This blog will be very quiet for a week. On the plus side however, I’m deliberately using AirBnB for the trip. Best way to review it is to use it, I figure. Blog post with my thoughts and feelings to follow.

Thoughts on the WWDC12 Keynote
Oh, yes. The Retina MacBook Pro definitely stole the show for me. What’s even more staggering is the amount of power they managed to cram into something as thin as the thickest point of the Air. …but it is pricey! I’m currently working out which organs I can sell. On a more important note: why have they continued the other MacBook Pros? Especially the 13” model? Why does...

Of Course It's Going To Suck →
Not only is it still way too soon, but Sorkin thus far is patently demonstrating a complete lack of understanding. It will damage the perception of Jobs and insult his genius.  Shame on the film industry for pressing ahead with these so quickly. The dust has yet to settle on his actual legacy, and now it’s already going to be dramatised. Bad, bad, bad.

Outbox →
This sounds absolutely fantastic. Not only is what they are doing infrastructure-wise very impressive, it’s just such a great idea, and one that really fulfils a need! I want this right now. This needs to come to the UK ASAP. Death to Postage. I can’t express how great this company sound in principle. I hope they succeed.

iOS 6 Rumour Round-Up →
There really are so many “mock-ups” to drum up hype in this article that it actually becomes quite funny. All will be revealed in 17 hours or so… I’d like to see: iPhone’s UI totally silvered off, as rumoured. The blue looks tired next to the iPad’s silver. Safari for iOS receiving unified search/address bar as in Mountain Lion. Notification Syncing across...

Post-Facebook IPO "Disaster" Reading
Since Facebook’s IPO, you may have noticed activity dropped here. Whilst I’d like to say it was a side-effect of the IPO’s lacklustre performance, it’s actually because I’ve been busy. There’s a lot to say on the matter. It’s been good and bad, and certainly good for Facebook (that’s what everyone keeps forgetting). Sarah Lacy did a pretty good...

A Very Extensive List... →
Rene Ritchie of iMore gave his opinion on what he hopes to see in iOS 6. Siegler picked it up, too. To me it read like a long list of how to screw up iOS 6 and really piss everyone off. The worst? The “Widget Area” - Seriously: WTF. It’s like they don’t even know the company they’re blogging about.
